Your Summer Guide to Healthy, Stronger Hair

Your Summer Guide to Healthy, Stronger Hair

The summer elements can be harsh on your hair. Between pool days in chlorinated water, dry winds, and intense sun, your hair can take a beating while you are having fun in the sun. But, with the longer days and hopefully a little less on your to-do list, summer is the perfect season to adopt a healthy hair care routine to strengthen and revitalize your locks. Here is your step-by-step summer guide to healthy, stronger hair.

Step One: Get a trim

Kick off the summer season with a good hair cut. Whether you just want to trim your ends or go for a bigger change, now is the time to do it. Getting regular trims helps to prevent split ends and knots. It also gives your hair a fresher look and makes it easier to style on days when you want to look more put together.

Step Two: Go heat-free

Summer heat does enough damage to your hair, so opt out of using hot styling tools whenever you can. And, because summer is generally associated with being carefree and people are usually more relaxed, your hair also deserves a break.

So, rather than blow-drying your hair after your next shower, let it air dry and see what natural textures come out. Your hair will thank you, and the extra free time will make a difference for you, too.

Step Three: Use sun protection

Most of us know sunscreen is a must in the summertime (and, for that matter, any time you are outdoors). But, we often forget about our hair in lew of being hyperaware of how the sun can damage our skin. But, the sun’s intensity during the height of summer can also harm your locks, causing your hair to become more porous and brittle. Additionally, those who color their hair may experience a loss of color with increased sun exposure.

The best way you can protect your hair is to wear a hat when you are outside. Not only will this keep your hair color intact (whether dyed or natural), but it will also help prevent harmful rays from reaching your scalp. If you have ever burned your part of the forehead, you will know that it is pretty uncomfortable and often leads to questionable flaking that may draw unwanted attention.

Step four: Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

As a generalization, most people do not drink enough water. In lew of H20, we often consume sugary or caffeinated beverages, which dehydrate rather than hydrate. Of course, water is always necessary, but it is especially important when the temperature outside is rising, and we are more prone to water loss through perspiration.

Just like our skin needs plenty of water to stay hydrated, our hair also requires it. Make it a point to always carry water with you, and try to drink at least a glass before eating any meal. And, when you are thirsty, first opt for a nice glass of water before reaching for something else to drink.

Step five: Get all the vitamins and minerals of the season

Summer is the perfect time to take advantage of all the in-season nutrient-dense food at farmer’s markets and grocery stores. Leafy greens, fresh fruit, and vegetables should be a part of every meal to give your hair the nutrients it needs to grow. And, all those fresh foods paired with a healthy protein will make your hair (and skin) very happy indeed.

Along with nutrient-dense food sources, now is the time to incorporate a hair supplement into your daily regimen. The REVITA®  Tablets for Hair Growth Support contain all the necessary ingredients to keep your hair healthy and encourage hair growth.

Step Six: Re-think your product line-up

What you put on your hair and scalp can make a big difference in how your hair looks and feels. Whether you have healthy hair, dyed hair, or are struggling with hair loss, some products are mindfully created using advanced dermatological technology to help your hair be as healthy and strong as possible.

Here are some recommendations for hair care products based on your hair type:

  • Thinning Hair: REVITA® High-Performance Hair Stimulating Shampoo and Conditioner or the REVITA.CBD® line
  • Curly or frizz-prone hair: RADIA® Purifying Shampoo and Conditioner
  • Dandruff or dry scalp: DANDRENE® Exfoliating Anti-Dandruff Shampoo and Conditioner
  • Color-treated or damaged hair: NIA® Advanced Restructuring Shampoo and Conditioner
  • Dry hair and sensitive scalp: RADIA® Purifying Shampoo and Conditioner

Step Seven: Get help if you need it

Don't hesitate to contact a health provider if you struggle with hair loss, hair thinning, excessive shedding, or scalp problems. Likely, you will want to meet with a dermatologist for any skin or hair-related concerns, as that is their specialty. And the sooner you start treating any worrisome symptoms, the better. For example, if you let hair loss go for too long before treating it, you will find it harder (and often impossible) to regain your original hair density. Likewise, untreated scalp conditions can affect your hair health and growth distribution.
