In a clinical research trial, visible results were achieved by week 4. The primary efficacy end point of the Revita.EPS study was an increase in overall eyelash prominence as perceived both by the researchers and by the study volunteers. The primary active compound in Revita.EPS, a proprietary peptide complex, was studied in vitro at the laboratory and in vivo with multiple panels of volunteers.
In vitro. Laboratory testing indicated that peptide complexes stimulated keratin genes dramatically.
An Agilent DNA microarray assay using EpiDermFT was conducted on human epidermal keratinocytes. After 24 hours of peptide exposure, the percentage of increase in gene expression was measured and compared to untreated controls.
The increases in expression of several genes, ranging from around 60 to 160 percent, are shown in the graph.
In vivo. In another study, a panel of 15 subjects from 24 to 82 years of age tested the eyelash-lengthening activity of Revita.EPS. The product was applied each night for two weeks using an eyeliner brush at the roots of the eyelashes. Measurements were made with the assistance of SigmaScan software. This study found a 25 percent increase in eyelash length at four weeks. Results are pictured.
A second panel of four subjects tested the peptide serum for both length and thickness after a longer period of study, also applying it to the roots of the lashes once each night.
Measurements were taken at zero, two, four, and six weeks, using a Canon EOS 5D Mark II digital camera calibrated with micrometers to calculate accurately the distal length and width of eyelashes. The camera was mounted on a tripod and aimed from directly above the anterior eyelids. Subjects were positioned inclining on a physician’s lab chair to maintain stability. Software used to represent eyelash density included commercially available Canfield and Hasselblad and proprietary programs. Eyelashes were determined to be significantly thicker after application of the proprietary peptide complex in Revita.EPS.
